IBPS PO syllabus

Every year the applications are increasing for this profile at a very fast speed. However the opportunities are very flat and limited. So its very important to know how you can prepare of Bank exam. In this article we will focus mainly on IBPS PO Syllabus, but we thought of covering little more that could add extra knowledge about Banking Examinations.

What is IBPS?

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an independent firm. Its operation started in the year 1975 as Personnel Selection Services (PSS). They conduct various exams for various jobs at bank as a Clerk, Probationary Officer (PO) at entry level.

Bank Exams in India:

In India there are 5 main exams to get into Public sector banks:

  • IBPS Clerk Exam
  • IBPS PO Exam
  • SBI Exam
  • RBI Exam
  • SBI Associated Bank Exams

In most of the cases the exam pattern involves a) Written Exam ( Prelims & Mains )  b) Interview. But the pattern changes very frequently hence you need to have a look at the exam pattern as well before starting your preparation.

PO exams include a Group Discussion

These exams are conducted once in a year.

 

General Required elligibility for above mentioned vacancies for Bank Exams:

 

  • Graduation is demanded as the basic level of education by most of the banks.
  • The criterion for age is in between 20 – 30 years for General category. However age relaxation of some years is given for reserved category candidates.

 

Basic subjects that are covered in almost all the exams:

  • The exams consist of subjects : Mathematics, Reasoning, Current Affairs, Computer Proficiency, English, Banking Knowledge OR Marketing.
  • Computer Knowledge as become an essential requirement these days.
  • The questions are asked from basic level just to test the knowledge of the candidate
  • In reasoning section questions are kept tricky and are formed in such a manner that will test decision taking capability and presence of mind of the candidate.
  • The exams are taken ONLINE only so preparation should be enough for it.

 

IBPS PO Examination

 

What does PO means?
The term PO means Probationary Officer. After selection as a PO in a particular bank a PO has to undergo Induction Training Programmes in Management Training Academies of particular banks. The training usually lasts for 10-20 days but mostly the training period differs from bank to bank. After completion of training tenure the PO can be posted anywhere in India. They can be posted as an Assistant Manager on Probation.

The Probation period is of 2 years, it also differs from bank to banks. In some banks the Probation Period is divided into sub categories. During this Probation period the PO can be transferred to any bank any time.

Once this Probation Period is completed the PO is deputed as the Assistant Manager.

Duties of a Probationary Officer in Bank

  • Multitasking job to make them familiar with various bank related tasks.
  • Trained with various aspects like Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Loans and Advances.
  • They have to handle customer services like issuing Cheque books, ATM cards, Demand Drafts etc
  • Loan Processing
  • Supervision of clerical work

Salary and Benefits to a PO:

  • Basic Salary : 23700/-
  • Special Allowance on basic salary: 7.75%
  • DA on Special Allowance: 43%
  • House Rent Allowances (HRA) : 7, 8 or 9 % on basic
  • CCA: 4%
  • Medical Benefit: 8000 Rs per year.
  • Minimum salary per month : RS 38200/-

Monthly Allowances payable to bank PO:

  • Dearness Allowance
  • Special Allowance
  • House Rent Allowance(HRA)
  • City Compensatory Allowance ( CCA)

Exam Pattern for IBPS PO Prelims Exam

  • The mode of examination is ONLINE.
  • The exam will occur in two steps: Preliminary exam and Mains Exam.
  • Those candidate who manage to qualify the prelims exam will be intrested to appear in mains exam
  • The result of mains exam decided whether the applicant is intrested to appear in interview or not.
  • Both the exams will be having OBJECTIVE TYPE QUESTIONS
  • All the tests except “ENGLISH LANGUAGE” can be attempted in HINDI.
  • The Negative Marking is ¼ for a wrong answer.

  • Scores attained can be high in this section
  • The trickiness and time consuming factor depends upon Nature of Passage and questions asked from it.

VOCABULARY:

  • Fill in the blanks ( with word list, blank in single sentence)
  • Synonyms
